The Association of Canadian Women Composers (ACWC/ACC) is the only professional association of women and women-identified composers and musicians in Canada. It actively supports music written by Canadian women and women-identified persons. Canadian composer/ecomusicologist/writer/pedagogue R. Murray Schafer (July 18, 1933–August 14, 2021) led us, via soundscapes and environmental/epic compositions, into new ways of hearing the world. He has touched us all.
In Solidarity with the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemce First Nation:
We at ACWC/ACC are horrified, outraged, shaken and deeply saddened by the news of 215 indigenous children who were buried near the former Kamloops (BC) ‘Indian’ Residential School some 50+ years ago. We join the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemce peoples in mourning and honouring these children who never returned home from school. We seek ways to address ills within our society of which we too have been a part, which have allowed this and other atrocities to occur.

Congratulations to the 2022 Initiatives Fund Winner, Monica Pearce!
Her new work, “Composition in Colour A” for soprano and marimba is based on the painting of the same name by Piet Mondrian (1872-1944). We look forward to hearing this new work premiered by Marco Schirripa and Shayna Tayloe in the future!
