Note: passing of Roberta Stephen and R. Murray Schafer
Canadian composer/ecomusicologist/writer/pedagogue R. Murray Schafer (July 18, 1933–August 14, 2021) led us, via soundscapes and environmental/epic compositions, into new ways of hearing the world. He has touched us all.
In Solidarity with the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemce First Nation:
We at ACWC/ACC are horrified, outraged, shaken and deeply saddened by the news of 215 indigenous children who were buried near the former Kamloops (BC) ‘Indian’ Residential School some 50+ years ago. We join the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemce peoples in mourning and honouring these children who never returned home from school. We seek ways to address ills within our society of which we too have been a part, which have allowed this and other atrocities to occur.
In 2021, the ACWC/ACC will celebrating 40 years since its inception in 1981. This is a time to look back to the past as well as look to the future of the organization and of the music of Canadian women. Many events and activities are being planned. Check this site frequently for updates. More Info here!
