Note: passing of Roberta Stephen and R. Murray Schafer
Canadian composer/ecomusicologist/writer/pedagogue R. Murray Schafer (July 18, 1933–August 14, 2021) led us, via soundscapes and environmental/epic compositions, into new ways of hearing the world. He has touched us all.
In Solidarity with the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemce First Nation:
We at ACWC/ACC are horrified, outraged, shaken and deeply saddened by the news of 215 indigenous children who were buried near the former Kamloops (BC) ‘Indian’ Residential School some 50+ years ago. We join the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemce peoples in mourning and honouring these children who never returned home from school. We seek ways to address ills within our society of which we too have been a part, which have allowed this and other atrocities to occur.
