Anita Pari
Composer, musician
Bio
Anita Pari is an Ottawa-based composer, pianist, and cellist. Over the past several
years, Anita has begun to establish herself as a dedicated and creative Canadian
musician, both through her compositional work and her concert performances.
Highlights of Anita’s work as a composer and performer include the premiere of her solo piano composition “Urban Movement” at the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, as well as a performance/discussion event featuring her compositions at the 2019 Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival. Besides her own performances, several ensembles have interpreted her music, including the Cecilia String Quartet (“Nocturne for Strings”) and the Harmonia Choir (“Worlds Apart”). Her compositional output includes music for orchestra, choir, chamber groups, and solo piano.
Last year, Anita recorded a CD of her recent compositions as a fourth-year
undergraduate project. The recording features her four-movement cello sonata
“Escape,” for which she is joined by pianist Nicole Presentey. The CD also includes
Anita’s performances of her solo piano works “Directions” and “Urban Movement.” Since its release in May 2019, the CD has been made available both online and in local
Ottawa music stores.
Although Anita’s musical pursuits center around composition, her accomplishments as a classical pianist and cellist are numerous. Anita holds ARCT diplomas of the Royal
Conservatory of Music in both instruments, and has given solo recitals across
Ontario as well as soloist appearances with orchestras such as l’Orchestre classique de Montréal, the National Academy Orchestra, the Lancaster Symphony, and the Frost
Symphony Orchestra.
This year, Anita completed her Bachelor of Music degree at Carleton University,
receiving the Governor General’s Academic Medal for graduating at the head of the
undergraduate class of 2020. Anita’s primary teachers at the university have been Dr.
James Wright (composition), Nicole Presentey (piano), and Peter Rapson (cello). This
September, Anita began a Master of Music degree in Composition at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, where she is working with Dr. Brian Cherney as her primary instructor.
