Julia Jacklein is a composer based in Burlington, Ontario. She writes in many different genres, including choral, chamber, art song, vocal, pedagogical, solo instrumental, and electroacoustic music. In recent years she has focused on choral and pedagogical compositions. Projects and collaborations include work with musica intima, DaCapo Chamber Choir, Choral Chameleon, That Choir, Lyrica Chamber Choir, Clarisse Tonagussi, and the Tost String Quartet.
Julia is also active as a music teacher, visual artist, and language tutor. Her love of language, visual art, poetry, and nature informs her work as a composer. Julia frequently combines music with other artistic forms of expression; in a recent project of this kind, she co-created a video presentation of original music, visual art, and poetry. Julia’s active exploration of nature has given her an appreciation of the music within nature, and she finds much inspiration in natural settings for her compositions and paintings.
