Bio

Julia's music is often inspired by nature, stories, and spiritual inquiry, and her compositional style reflects both contemporary and traditional influences. Her compositions have been performed across Canada and the United States. Recent collaborations include projects with DaCapo Chamber Choir, Choral Chameleon, That Choir, Lyrica Chamber Choir, the Tost String Quartet, and musica intima. Julia is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre.

Julia is also active as a music teacher, visual artist, and language tutor. Her love of language, visual art, poetry, and nature informs her work as a composer. Julia frequently combines music with other artistic forms of expression; in a recent project of this kind, she co-created a video presentation of original music, visual art, and poetry. Julia’s active exploration of nature has given her an appreciation of the music within nature, and she finds much inspiration in natural settings for her compositions and paintings.
