Bio

Paulette Popp grew up in North Vancouver, B.C. Piano lessons started at age 5½ and she remembers thinking "I can read notes, but I cannot read words!"

Largely self-taught, Paulette played piano throughout high school and university. Years later, she taught her own 4 children, starting with little songs composed especially for them, followed by Edna Mae Burnam's "Step by Step" and Boris Berlin's ABC Method.

This inspired Paulette, a former High School teacher, to go back to piano lessons herself! Within a couple of years, Paulette took her first ever Royal Conservatory examinations: Grade 9 piano, and "comprehensive (advanced) rudiments."

After achieving her Level 10 pre-requisite pass, and aspiring to work towards the RCM piano teacher's diploma, Paulette enrolled in Joe Ringhofer's group classes for Harmony, Counterpoint and Analysis, while studying History levels 1- 3 on her own. At the same time, Paulette enrolled with George McElroy for ARCT teacher's diploma, and signed up for pedagogy classes with John Graham. The Royal Conservatory of Music Convocation took place on January 21st, 2001.

Paulette is presently teaching a handful of students, and working on revisions and final edits for her unique, different and special piano course, written for and extensively taught to her beginners, all ages including the adult learner.

Two of Paulette's compositions for Violin Level 1 Repertoire are listed in the RCM 2021 Violin Syllabus, and may be listened to on YouTube: "The Plucky Snake" and "Out on a Limb.”
