Bio
Yuhan is a composer, pianist, and producer based in Toronto, originally from China. Her music is influenced by a diverse range of elements, including Chinese opera, Asian philosophies, art, film scores, jazz, and literature. Yuhan blends these inspirations to create dynamic, narrative-driven compositions. A recent winner of the Ann H. Atkinson Prize 2023, and her work The Not-Yet won the 2022 Piano Trio Composition Competition at the University of Toronto and premiered at the 2023 New Music Festival by the Bedford Trio.
As composer-in-residence at the University of Toronto, Yuhan works with the Wind Symphony and Chamber Choir. Her concert music has been performed across East Asia and North America. In addition to concert music, Yuhan specializes in soundtracks for visual media, including animated productions, films, and advertisements.
In 2021, Yuhan served as Music Producer and Team Lead at the headquarters of ByteDance (TIKTOK's parent company) in Beijing, where she oversaw the production of hundreds of songs, earning a spot bonus award for her work. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in composition at the University of Toronto with Christos Hatzis and Gary Kulesha. Yuhan is also deeply involved in music education and recently adjudicated at MusicFest Canada 2024.
