2023 Initiatives Fund Winner, Sophie Dupuis

Congratulations to our 2023 Innitatives Fund Winner, Sophie Dupuis!

Sophie was commissioned by Quasar (saxophone quartet based in Montreal) to write a piece for their Montreal-Mexico exchange project, for which they commissioned four composers from Canada and Mexico. Her new piece (12 minute work exploring microtonal relations between the four instruments) has been workshopped in Montreal in January and this fund will support the next phase of the project, for traveling to both Montreal and Mexico. This next phase includes performances of the final works on April 30 in Montreal, May 8 in Mexico City and May 10 in Monterrey. Quasar has invited the Canadian composers to join them in their trip to Mexico, to meet their audiences but also to take part in roundtables on the topic of music creation, in pre-concert talks and in presentations/masterclasses with the composition classes of the University of Monterrey and the University of Mexico.
